Integral AI Presented Modular Robot Design at ICCMA 2024

25/2/11

Integral AI recently presented its research on modular robot arm design at the 12th International Conference on Control, Mechatronics, and Automation (ICCMA 2024), held at Brunel University London, UK, from November 11-13, 2024.

The paper, titled Easy Automatic Assembled Robot Design by Modular Design for Robotic Assembly, introduces a novel approach to robot arm construction. By leveraging three distinct joint modules: a rotary joint, a base joint, and a linear joint, the design simplifies assembly, reduces component count through 3D printing, and enhances adaptability for industrial applications. Experimental results demonstrate that the modular system can be successfully assembled using the robot’s basic movements, significantly improving efficiency in automation.

The presentation generated significant interest, sparking an engaging discussion with attendees. Key discussion points included the potential for AI-driven robot design, the possibility of open-sourcing the approach, and comparisons with existing industrial solutions. Attendees were particularly interested in how this modular method compares to traditional humanoid robots and its implications for large-scale automated manufacturing.
